The Louisiana Coastal Prairie once was more than 2.5 million acres of coastal prairie habitat that extendeded from southwest Louisiana to the lower Texas coast. Sadly, today it only has 1 percent of it remaining in pristine condition, making it one of the rarest habitats in the nation. This has lead to an increase of endangered species and a decrease of prairie plants. However, restoration efforts are currently underway to ensure the conservation of the coastal prairie ecosystem and its wildlife for generations.
